About Shamila
Shamila Millard is a counsellor, ecotherapist, and facilitator dedicated to fostering emotional resilience and reconnection with nature. She holds a Diploma of Counselling and a Certificate in Ecotherapy, and has been a certified flower essence therapist since 2009.
Drawing on a background in Anthropology and Social Ecology (BA Hons, University of Melbourne), Shamila brings a deep understanding of human culture, behaviour, and our interdependence with the natural world. Her approach integrates creative, somatic, and nature-based practices to support individual and community well-being in a climate-changing world.
Shamila has over a decade of experience in environmental and outdoor education, youth mentorship, and community empowerment. She co-directed The Bollywood Sisters—a joyful, inclusive dance collective that fostered belonging and cultural connection through movement—and mentored children and teens as part of Bruns Bush School, guiding bush skills, rites of passage, and “All Girls” programs.
Since 2016, Shamila has been a core facilitator with The Joyality Project, designing and delivering climate well-being and resilience programs for diverse groups aged 9 to 79. She is currently part of the team creating and piloting Climate Wellbeing Resources for AdaptNSW, to be delivered in high schools across the state.
In addition, she works as a Nature-Based Compassion Trainer with Southern Cross University’s Heart Trials, and as a consultant and facilitator with Plan C, supporting community carers and responders to disasters.
Her extensive training includes Trauma-Informed Coaching, ASSIST Suicide Prevention, Adventure Therapy for Complex Trauma, Cultural Competency, and Rites of Passage Leadership, alongside a background in outdoor recreation and bush therapy.
Guided by a lifelong love of the natural world, Shamila’s work is infused with creativity, empathy, and embodied connection. Whether counselling in the forest, leading group workshops, or developing educational resources, she helps people rediscover balance, purpose, and belonging within nature’s rhythms.
When she’s not facilitating, you’ll find her bushwalking, weaving, snowboarding, surfing, or dancing beneath the trees.
